Other Stalking Cases Involving Young Girls and Young Women

Here are a few more stalking cases. These cases are not affiliated with the movie or the story above on which the movie is based.

Peeping Tom Case Ends in Murder 2002 North Carolina

Stephanie Bennett, 23, was found dead on her bedroom floor in Bridgeport Apartments. She had been strangled sometime after midnight. There was no sign of forced entry. The bedroom screen had been removed from her window. It appeared as though someone had waited in the closet before the murder. A few weeks before her murder, she emailed a friend that she was afraid because of a peeping tom that had been looking into her window. Police continued to interview witnesses that had seen the peeping tom. They described him as a tall thin man who had a large dog. He often walked from another set of apartments nearby. When investigators went to that complex the manager informed them that the name of the man was Drew Planten, and that he had moved out of the building. The police kept him under surveillance. They devised a plan to obtain dna from Planten, but he knew they were watching. They were able to get dna from his place of work. The dna was a match. Police believe that he entered her apt through the bedroom window, and waited for her in the closet. When she arrived home, she called her boyfriend, and Planten watched her as she undressed. After she went to bed, he came out of the closet and attacked her. She was assaulted and strangled until she died. Police also believed that Planten had killed other women. He committed suicide before he could be convicted.
